Order #xbr3 , I got scammed in the escrow of all things. User impersonated the Mediator by creating a fake account one character different ("aka__TheAC" instead of "aka_TheAC"). I had repeated Web Socket errors during the escrow process, then received a message from what appeared to be the real Mediator. I foolishly believed that the address he gave me in chat was the escrow wallet address, and that he would "take care of things on his end".

As soon as the money was sent, both the seller and the fake "Mediator" vanished. This was 100% avoidable on my end if I'd bothered to check the account page of the person sending me the message, as it was only after an hour of zero response that I realized what happened, checked, and saw how I'd been bamboozled.

Learn from my mistake... ALWAYS check the account name of the person messaging you.

Attempted to double scam me by claiming he'd send the money back if I deleted all posts talking about it and send him $7 in "fees" to get the funds out of a stake he supposedly put the money into. I have to credit him for the audacity, if nothing else.

The usernames are a low hanging fruit for the scammers to repeatedly exploit.
Anything even close to another username should simply by unavailable. Or very least get auto frozen upon claiming.
That or some good samaritan should at least go and claim all names even loosely resembling mediator names.
Just for good measure their second, third, and fourth variations too... And flag them all with a ban request.

If I understand this correctly, a fake name is still available to be claimed repeatedly by scammers, because the scammer changed their name before being banned. In his thread you can see similar if not identical scenario here:

Yes they change names constantly to avoid flagging, but they also watch this thread to know when to change their names. It's likely only one guy.
